Miramichi, New Brunswick
Miramichi is the largest city in northern New Brunswick, Canada. It is situated at the mouth of the Miramichi River where it enters Miramichi Bay. The Miramichi Valley is the second longest valley in New Brunswick, after the Saint John River Valley. The city has a population of 18,719 people (2016 census) and covers an area of 29.93 square kilometers. The urban core extends along both sides of the Miramichi River from its mouth up to McGivney Falls, about 16 kilometers upstream. The Port of Miramichi is located at the mouth of the river and handles approximately 110,000 tons of cargo each year. The main industries in the city are forestry, fishing and tourism. Forestry products account for about 60% of all exports from the Port of Miramichi. The city is also home to several tourist attractions, including Beaubears Island National Historic Site and the Miramichi Folkloric Festival.
